We are a community group, formed in 2010 to fight a proposal to build 2,750 homes here. That battle was won but the war goes on. Our continuing mission is to protect the rural nature and green space within the civil parish of Southwater, which includes Marlpost, Two Mile Ash, Stammerham, Christ’s Hospital, Tower Hill, Denne Park and Newfoundout.
In April 2014, as part of our on-going campaign against overdevelopment, we launched a petition addressed to Horsham District Council requesting that councillors refuse planning consent for Berkeley Homes’ application to build up to 634 homes on land west of the Worthing Road in the centre of Southwater. This petition was delivered to the Chairman of HDC on 16th February 2015. The online version can still be seen here.
On 17th February 2015, this particular battle was lost when Berkeley Homes was granted outline planning permission to build up to 594 units on the site. Details here. We are now fighting the application by Wates Developments to build on Hogs Wood Field at the southern end of Southwater. See here.
